We’re delighted to welcome back Hungarian conductor Gergely Madaras to conduct this concert full of rich orchestral works from Beethoven, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. He’ll be joined by Simone Lamsma, who takes on Sibelius’s mighty Violin Concerto. A work in which the solo violin emerges out of a murmuring bed of strings, with a long, yearning theme of ever-growing intensity, which continues to be developed throughout before reaching the thrilling finale.
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6 ‘Pathétique’ explores the metaphysics of death, confronting it’s inevitability for us all. In contrast, Beethoven’s Creatures of Prometheus celebrates the heroic aspects of the mythical bringer of fire and life.
